The training of graduates in Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) can be traced back to 1978 when graduate education in China was resumed. The Graduate School offers an enormous diversity of programs leading to the Ph.D., M.S. and M.Eng. degrees through both traditional academic departments and various interdepartmental programs and research centers. BUCT has grown to embrace teaching and research programs of distinction in engineelllllloqring, in applied mathematics, physics and chemistry, in management and in those areas of the humanities and social sciences most closely related in method or content to modern developments in engineering and science. It has 11 programs authorized to confer Ph.D. degrees and 22 programs respectively authorized to confer M.S. and M.Eng. degrees. Since 1978, the school has enrolled about 3,000 graduate students and more than 2,000 Ph.D. and M.S. degrees have been awarded. In 2001, the total enrollment in the school is approximately 1,100, with 150 being Ph.D. students.
