　　We have established undergraduate courses in 30 subjects with the aim of meeting the demands of a rapidly developing society for highly trained personnel. Over 7300 students are currently enrolled on these courses. There is a core curriculum of engineering subjects with many interdisciplinary courses being available, allowing students to broaden their specialist knowledge whilst retaining academic rigor in their chosen subjects. The courses give students a sound fundamental knowledge whilst encouraging them to develop their creative and problem-solving skills. There is a well-developed teaching quality assurance system involving both senior members of the university and experienced external assessors.
We have highly a qualified and experienced staff of over 1800, including 800 teaching and research staff, of whom 460 are professors and associate professors. Staff are organized into specialist groups covering Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Plant Technology, Information Science and Computer Science, Economic Management, Physical Sciences, Arts and Law. Many of our staff are actively involved in the development of modern teaching materials. Since 1998, nearly 50 teaching books have been published and some 100 sets of teaching material developed for internal use. The university has invested over 10 million RMB in advanced teaching equipment in order to foster students' creative and practical abilities. The university has also established a simulation station for practical work, the first of its type in China.

　　The laboratories of Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering Theory, Electrical Engineering, Machinery and Materials Science have been awarded the title of 'National First Class Laboratory'. The university provides a comprehensive range of advanced experiment for undergraduate training. We also pay great attention to the application and popularization of modern educational methods. There are more than 10 multimedia classrooms and the university has developed a series of advanced CAI courseware.

　　We have a four-year full-time undergraduate program operating on the credit system. A variety of scholarships sponsored by the university, individuals as well as foreign companies such as BASF (Germany), Rhone-Poulenc (France), Bayer (Germany), Dow Chemical Company (USA) and Dupont (USA) are available for outstanding students. The university offers a broad range of courses grouped in the areas of Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Information Science, Economics and Management, Physical Sciences, Arts and Law with a mixture of core and option courses. Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees are awarded. The university aims at fostering the all-round development of the students. A variety of lectures and other academic activities are organized for students. A wide selection of books, reference books, periodicals and newspapers are available from Monday to Friday. Furthermore, campus life is rich and colorful with many sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor, available for student use.
